Fall 2002 - The Jacobsen E-Plex electric triplex greens mower is the ideal choice, both economically and practically. There’s no engine, no hydraulic fluid, no emissions and no risk of oil or fuel leaks. It costs less to maintain and operates virtually noise-free. Best of all, it offers the legendary Jacobsen cut.

The Jacobsen E-Plex is the quiet mowing alternative. The E-Plex is perfect for courses in residential areas, yet doesn’t sacrifice power. It is essential for communities with noise ordinances.

The mower’s power source, a 48-volt system consisting of eight 6-volt batteries, is designed to cut 18 or more greens per day. Options include three different amphour rated batteries. The charging system uses a Lestronic battery charger and a simple connection. Batteries recharge overnight and cost less than 50 cents to recharge. An optional quick-change, removable battery pack lifts out the entire tray using a standard equipment hoist.

Reliable traction system
The E-Plex uses a 3.5-hp General Electric motor, which is directly coupled to a Cushman worm-gear differential for a reliable and simple system. The traction system has an easy-effort forward/reverse pedal. Mowing speeds are adjustable from 3 mph to 4 mph, and the transport speed is up to 7.5 mph. Reverse speed is 3.8 mph.

Large 20 x 10-10 tires have low ground pressure to reduce compaction and provide better traction. There are 6-inch caliper disc brakes on each front wheel. They are mechanically actuated for increased reliability.

Legendary Jacobsen cut
The E-Plex uses three 22-inch by 5-inch diameter reels to deliver the legendary Jacobsen quality and consistency of cut. A standard 11-blade reel offers a .04 inch/mph frequency of clip. Seven- or 9-blade reels are optional.

The reel drive uses a 1/2-hp electric motor directly coupled to each reel shaft. It is shielded from outside elements. The reel lift and lower system uses an electric actuator on each reel. It is also sealed and protected.

The traction control system uses a Curtis solid-state controller. A Textron solid-state controller is used for the reel drive and lift and lower systems. These components offer overload protection, low voltage protection, direct readout diagnostics, improved reliability and increased battery life.

Operator comfort features
The Jacobsen E-Plex is designed with many operator comfort features:

  • Standard cable steering to the rear wheel requires low effort.
  • Optional electric power steering kit.
  • Steering arm height is adjustable to match the comfort level for different size operators.
  • ComfortPlus™ Controls are strategically located and angled toward the operator for increased productivity.
  • All hand controls are on the right side of the operator’s station.
  • High back, contoured seat. Drink and radio holders are incorporated into the cover. Headlights are standard for early morning mowing.

Service is easy
There are several important features to enhance serviceability.

  • Cutting units can be controlled individually through the control panel.
  • Independent lift/lower system.
  • Patented swing-out rear reel provides easy access for reel adjustments, cleaning, change-outs and backlapping.
  • There is no engine maintenance; only simple battery maintenance is required.
  • Easy access under the battery cover.

Value leader
The Jacobsen E-Plex has a low initial purchase price. In fact, it costs less than most engine-driven triplex mowers. And, maintenance costs are very low.
