FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jacobsen supports charlotte's wachovia championship
Charlotte, N.C., May 1, 2006 - Jacobsen®, a Textron company, rolls out the green carpet on its home turf the first week in May as the Wachovia Championship brings the PGA TOUR to Charlotte, North Carolina, headquarters for the equipment company celebrating its 85th year of service in the turf industry. Not only is Jacobsen the official hospitality partner of the Wachovia Championship, but its turf maintenance equipment is being used exclusively on the fairways, greens, approaches and collars of Quail Hollow Club, where the tournament is played. “We’re honored to support this premier golf event taking place in our hometown,” says Karla Cuculi, marketing director for Jacobsen. “Jacobsen mowers, aerators and utility vehicles are helping create superior course conditions that continue to attract the best players to the Wachovia Championship,” adds Cuculi. “In fact, 10 of the top 11 ranked players in the world plan to compete in this year’s Wachovia Championship, making it one of the top events on the PGA TOUR.” Not only will Jacobsen dealers, superintendents, and others attending the event notice the results of using Jacobsen equipment to cut, groom and maintain the course, but the players appreciate the superior conditions as well. Throughout the course, manicured greens follow the unusual contours of the hills to present a challenge to even the sharpest short game. Course highlights include hole #7, which is transected by a pond complete with waterfall and rock wall; hole #10, one of four Par 5 holes, a winding 591-yard fairway lined with giant trees and tufted bunkers; signature hole #17, 217 yards over water; and, for a challenging finish, hole #18, which must be negotiated over a deep creek bed that runs the length of the fairway. The tournament will receive national television coverage with rounds 1 and 2 on May 4 -5 being aired on the USA Network and rounds 3 and 4 on May 6-7 televised by CBS Sports. The tournament’s $6 million purse is one of the largest on the tour and in three years the tournament has raised $4.2 million for charity.Teach For America is the Championship’s primary charity.
