Jacobsen Sponsors Green Day at the Bank of America Championship

Jacobsen's new Eclipse 122 F created a stir at Green Day with its innovative, interchangeable power supply.
The E-Walk, from Jacobsen, is the industry's only all-electric, high-performance walking greens mower, providing an unmatched quality-of-cut.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 21, 2007) – Jacobsen, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, teamed up with the Bank of America Championship and the PGA Champions Tour in Concord, MA, to sponsor Green Day - an event designed to celebrate the environmental distinctions of the tournament's host course and growing eco-consciousness throughout the game of golf.

Nashawtuc Country Club, the annual host of the Champions Tour event, opened a new state-of-the-art Environmental Center for maintenance chemical storage and was honored by Audubon International as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary."

The course is the 10th in Massachusetts and 638th worldwide to earn this recognition through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, a United States Golf Association (USGA) recognized program helping golf courses protect the environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf.

"What Nashawtuc and Superintendent Paul Miller have done to promote environmental thinking is a great example for golf clubs and courses around the nation," said Brian Melka, Jacobsen director of product development, who spoke at the event. "Jacobsen is leading a movement among turf equipment manufacturers toward more eco-efficient products by continuing to develop our industry-leading electric technology."

Jacobsen demonstrated the capabilities of some of its newest electric equipment with the two most advanced walking greens mowers available today. Melka showed off the innovative, interchangeable power system on the new Eclipse 122 F that allows either battery or gen-set configurations to reduce noise, emissions and fuel consumption.

Jacobsen also rolled out the E-Walk™, which debuted in 2003, saw major control and reliability enhancements in 2007 and remains the industry's only high-performance, all-electric walking mower.

"We are proud to be teamed up with a company like Jacobsen that is leading the charge into the next generation of alternative energy in turf equipment," said Mary Moffett, owner of S.V. Moffett Company, which supplies Jacobsen equipment to clients across five states in the Northeast including Nashawtuc. "The whole industry is moving toward a more environmental approach and it's a great thing for the game, for golfers and for all of us."

Representatives from BASF, Grigg Brothers, the Champions Tour and Audubon International were also on hand to describe impressive environmental efforts currently being made within their respective organizations.

"We only have one environment, and we have a responsibility to leave it better than we found it," said Paul Miller, superintendent at Nashawtuc Country Club. "Technology is on our side, but it's still up to us to allow our grandchildren to enjoy what we have here today."
